Anne Frank was born on 12 June 1929. She died in Bergen-Belsen, three months short of her sixteenth birthday.

Mirjam Pressler

Mirjam Pressler was born in 1940 in Darmstadt, Germany. She was educated in Frankfurt am Main and lives near Munich, where she works as a writer and translator. She is the German translator of Anne Frank’s diary and has written a biography of Anne Frank in addition to nearly 40 other books. She is the recipient of the German Literary Prize for Children’s Books, the Carl Zuckmayer Medal for services to the German language, the German Book Prize, and a lifetime award for her literary work from the board of the German Book Prize.

Elie Wiesel

Elie Wiesel (1928 – 2016) was born in Sighet, Transylvania, which is now part of Romania. He was fifteen years old when he and his family were deported by the Nazis to Auschwitz. After the war, Elie Wiesel studied in Paris and later became a journalist. During an interview with the distinguished French writer, Francois Mauriac, he was persuaded to write about his experiences in the death camps. The result was his internationally acclaimed memoir, La Nuit or Night, which has since been translated into more than thirty languages.
