Tammy February Reviews Melina Marchetta's On the Jellicoe Road
I first fell in love with Melina Marchetta’s writing a couple of months ago when I read Saving Francesca.
This wonderful author has a way of making the lives of her characters seep into your veins, filling your soul with a bittersweet ache that refuses to go away long after you’ve turned the last page.
And with On the Jellicoe Road, it proved to be no different.

Become the Ultimate Braai Master
They say that the one thing that brings South Africans together is sport. I beg to differ. Truth is, there’s something about gathering around the African TV that is hard-wired into all of us, and the moment we huddle around the fire, we become one nation. Sexy or Sweet? Which Romance Novel Would You Read?
I love romance novels. As long as there is a happily ever after, I want to read it. These days there are so many romance genres and authors to choose from. Admittedly the romance sections in bookstores are overwhelming.
Having read countless romance novels, be they vampires, angels, werewolves, shapeshifters, wizards and witches, enhanced humans or ordinary people who don’t possess the ability to see ghosts or turn you into a toad, I believe I am more than equipped to educate you on the authors you should be reading.

Lemony Snicket's Who Could That Be at This Hour
In a fading town, far from anyone he knew or trusted, a young Lemony Snicket began his apprenticeship in an organisation nobody knows about. He started by asking questions that shouldn't have been on his mind. Now he has written an account that should not be published, in four volumes that shouldn't be read. This is the first volume.

Zadie Smith's 10 Rules of Writing
Inspired by Elmore Leonard's 10 Rules of Writing, The Guardian asked authors for their writing dos and don'ts. We love Zadie Smith's insights.
Q&A with Gareth Crocker
Gareth Crocker’s latest novel, Journey from Darkness (October, 2012, Penguin), was co-written with his father, Llewellyn Crocker. It tells the story of two brothers who, after surviving World War I, escape to South Africa. Following in their late father’s footsteps, they devote their time to trying to save the country’s last remaining elephants from savage poaching.
