Position: Berlut Sales & Digital Business Manager 

Report To: Education Sales Manager

Penguin Random House is looking for an experienced and commercially driven Sales & Digital Business Manager to grow the Berlut study guide portfolio and expand the adoption of our digital education products across Southern Africa. This role offers the opportunity to work with educators, schools, government stakeholders, distributors and booksellers while helping to shape the future of learning through both print and digital education solutions.

Main responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement sales strategies and territory plans to drive growth across the Berlut portfolio and digital education products. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, principals, heads of department, teachers, provincial education departments, the DBE, IEB, NGOs, distributors and booksellers. 
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the education sector and grow institutional and partnership-based sales. 
  • Promote and support the adoption of Berlut study guides as well as digital education products through presentations, demonstrations, training and customer engagement initiatives. 
  • Work closely with Publishing, Editorial, Sales, Marketing and Digital teams to support product launches, maximise market reach and increase customer adoption. 
  • Analyse market trends, sales performance and customer insights to identify opportunities for growth and innovation. 
  • Represent Penguin Random House Education at conferences, exhibitions, industry forums and education events throughout the Southern African region. 
  • Manage tender submissions, procurement processes and stakeholder documentation while identifying opportunities for partnership and CSR funding. 
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and prepare monthly sales and performance reports. 

Skills & Knowledge required 

  • Strong commercial, business development and strategic account management skills. 
  • Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder engagement abilities. 
  • Understanding of digital learning platforms, education technology and digital product adoption. 
  • Ability to analyse sales performance, market trends and customer data to support decision-making. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Afrikaans and English. 
  • Strong organisational and project management abilities with the capacity to work independently and manage multiple priorities. 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with creativity, initiative and a passion for education. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related business systems 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Minimum three years’ experience in education sales, business development or account management. 
  • Proven experience delivering sales growth and managing key customer relationships. 
  • Experience working with education departments, schools and institutional customers. 
  • Experience within the publishing or book industry would be advantageous. 
  • Experience selling or supporting digital education products or education technology solutions would be advantageous. 
  • Knowledge of the South African education system. 
  • Driver’s licence and own vehicle. 
  • Teaching qualification advantageous.
