Sasol Birds of Southern Africa

Ian Sinclair is recognised as one of Africa’s foremost field birders and has lead many expeditions to find and research birds. Phil Hockey (1956-2013), former Director of the FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology at UCT, was an expert on the biology of southern African birds.

Warwick Tarboton is a well-known bird expert and writer of several well-received books. He is a past president of BirdLife South Africa and has been awarded the Gill Memorial Medal and the Stevenson-Hamilton award for services to ornithology and zoology.

Niall Perrins is a dedicated birder, photographer and bird guide.

Dominic Rollinson holds a doctorate in seabird conservation from the FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology at the University of Cape Town, and works as a guide for Birding Ecotours, leading tours around the world. He is a co-author on the fifth edition of Sasol's Birds of Southern Africa.

Peter Ryan is Director of the Percy FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology at the University of Cape Town. He is a keen bird photographer and has travelled widely in pursuit of birds. He is also the author and co-author of several books on birds and on Subantarctic Islands.
