Drie jaar ná die dood van een van Afrikaans se grootste skrywers kom ’n Nederlandse vrou Suid-Afrika toe om navorsing vir ’n biografie oor sy lewe te doen. Sy besoek die skrywer se voormalige vakleerling om meer oor die enigmatiese figuur vas te stel – bykans dertig jaar nadat die twee mans se weë pynlik geskei het. Sluitstuk  is ’n elegiese roman oor verlange, verlies, wraak en versoening wat die roete na stilte en die skeppingsimpuls oopskryf.
