Penguin Random House has a long and impressive history of publishing fiction and non-fiction in South Africa, with a substantial number of prize-winners and bestsellers, making it a natural choice for readers and authors alike. The Penguin brand is synonymous with quality, innovation and good old-fashioned reading pleasure, and its South African books stand proudly among its international counterparts. Our local fiction division publishes fiction to delight large audiences in terms of quality storytelling and great writing. Focus genres include general and historical fiction, accessible literary fiction, and blockbuster crime fiction. Our non-fiction divisions cover a wide range of genres, including history, politics, biography, business, nature, and travel. Penguin is also at the forefront of a growing list of prestigious local cookbooks.

Portfolio was founded in 2001 as the first dedicated business imprint within Penguin Group. It publishes distinctive hardcovers and trade paperbacks in the fields of management, leadership, marketing, business narrative, investing, personal finance, economics, technology, sales, entrepreneurship, and career advice. 
 

Umuzi, meaning ‘home’ and ‘hearth’, aims to publish the finest fiction in South Africa across various genres. It is a bespoke imprint of choice for established literary authors, prize-winner books, and trailblazing new voices that thrill and surprise readers in terms of content, style, and/or form.
 

Zebra Press was launched in the mid-1990s as the black and white imprint of Struik Publishers, publishing mainly non-fiction and specialising in politics, current affairs and history, military history, sport, business and personal finance. It has produced an impressive list of prize-winners and bestsellers, including winners of the Alan Paton Award and the bestselling sports autobiography in South African publishing history. Zebra Press has a particularly strong list of personal finance titles.


Struik Travel & Heritage is a smaller imprint that features titles that showcase the scenic splendour of the southern African region and its heritage. It includes informative guides to popular regions and key cities, and books dedicated to outdoor activities such as hiking.
 

Struik Nature is the leading specialist Natural History publisher in southern Africa, associated with best-selling and highly regarded field guides to fauna and flora of the region. We publish full-colour illustrated books across a variety of subject areas, including birds, mammals, reptiles, trees and flowers, the marine environment, geology, astronomy, general wildlife, and children's nature.  A variety of different series covering these subject areas ensure that all levels of interest are catered for, from beginner to intermediate and serious interest, and titles are written by the region's most respected authorities in their fields, ensuring accuracy, relevance and authority.
 

Struik Lifestyle publishes a diverse range of books on family matters, home, gardening and daily living. From its publishing origins decades ago and particularly in recent years, Struik Lifestyle has become South Africa’s leading publisher of cookbooks, producing titles suitable for everyday home cooking to those that appeal to more serious foodies. These cookery books celebrate authors and food personalities, from the exciting diversity of culture and tastes across South Africa.

 

Struik Children originated in 2014 following the great demand for Afrikaans children's and youth books. Struik wants to create greater diversity in the market by discovering and developing new writers and creating an alternative publication channel for experienced writers.

 

In May 2010 Random House Struik acquired the Fernwood Press list, a specialist imprint featuring a splendid range of illustrated non-fiction works on southern Africa's cultural and natural history for the discerning buyer and collector. 

 

LAPA Publishers was founded in the 1930s (under the name JP van der Walt) with the aim of establishing Afrikaans writers and developing the Afrikaans reading market. Through the subsequent decades and several reinventions, LAPA has become synonymous with accessibility. The imprint focuses on genre fiction broadly defined, and aims to provide readers with engaging, high quality reading material. LAPA is dedicated to the ongoing development of Afrikaans and the types of stories that South Africans choose to tell therein. The Lapa imprint is also recognized for its array of craft and cookery titles.

 

Wenkbrou (‘Eyebrow’) was founded specifically for those books that do not fit comfortably into any conventional category. Our books are intended for readers who enjoy a different kind of story with unusual characters and unique plots. These are the kinds of books that interweave genres and push boundaries to foster an engaging discourse. Instead of outrage, these books are intended to spark spirited discussion. Where quality meets controversy, that’s where readers rightfully raise an Eyebrow. 

 

Launched in 2005, Romanza publishes love stories for women of all ages. With four new titles each month, Romanza offers accessible, well-priced love stories and the promise of a happy ever after.

 

LUCA is PRH SA’s newly launched imprint, created specifically for the needs of faith-based readers. LUCA, a word derived from the Latin word ‘Lux’ which means ‘light’, publishes local authors for the diverse Christian market in South Africa. Readers can look forward to books that offer hope and inspiration.
