About the book:
Fly-fishing is a multifaceted sport that will absorb you in its reality, taking you to places of exceptional beauty, to explore and to revel in the solitude. It is so often spoken of as an art form while fly-tying, inextricably linked to fly-fishing, is in its own right a form of artistry.

South African Fishing Flies  is a celebration of this artistry – the innovation, the talents of the originators and their vision of imagination, masters of the craft – and of all the fly-tyers of South Africa. It is not an exhaustive reference to all South African flies, but is rather an anthology of those that by virtue of their innovation in design, materials used and tying techniques have helped shape and, in some cases, change the thinking on fly-tying in this country. It is also a visual celebration of these flies, the waters we fish, an introduction to some of the individuals in our fly-fi shing community, and creators of South African flies.

About the Author
As a young boy, Peter Brigg fished with bait and earthworms for eel and mullet in the rivers around King William’s Town, but it was after catching a small rainbow trout in the headwaters of the Buffalo River in the Amatola Mountains that his lifelong passion for fly-fishing and trout began. He has an affinity for the natural
environment, combining his love of fly-fishing small streams with his interests in hiking, photography, writing and art. Peter is a member of the Federation of Southern African Flyfishers and an honorary member of the Natal Fly Fishers Club. He is a freelance writer with numerous feature articles in local and overseas fly magazines, and the author of the acclaimed fly-fishing book, Call of the Stream,  and writes a blog by the same name.
About the Author
For Ed Herbst, a love of angling was inculcated when his mother took him to Durban harbour, aged five, and he caught a rock cod. From river fishing with bait, he quickly graduated to spinning for bass. He was in his mid-thirties when he joined the Cape Piscatorial Society (CPS) and started fly-fishing. He soon joined
the CPS committee and started editing its journal, Piscator,  in 1990, which he continued to do until 2010. Ed became a member of the first committee of the Federation of Southern African Flyfishers and, in 2003, he was nominated for its Exemplary Service Award. In 2011 he was made President of the CPS.
