Tsitsi Dangarembga to produce a film of Imran Garda’s novel The Thunder That Roars

Tsitsi Dangarembga, well-known author of Nervous Conditions and founder and CEO of Nyerai Films, has optioned films rights to Imran Garda’s debut novel The Thunder That Roars. Dangarembga will supervise the adaptation and production of the film as creative producer. The company plan to begin principal photography as early as next year.

Severine was collecting one of her many prescriptions from Clicks, the supermarket-type pharmacy in the Constantia Village mall two blocks from her home. Her mother, who had accompanied her, waited for her at a coffee shop nearby. She was reluctant to allow Severine to walk around alone outside of the security estate where they lived, preferring to drive her the two blocks there and back.

Her phone is croaking again. Iris eyes it warily. She’d thought that a frog sound would be soothing, but the croak is somehow more ominous than the bicycle bell ringtone that she’d had before. She’d ignored the last call, but the caller is apparently not easily deterred. She snatches up the phone and silences its croak with her thumb. ‘Hello?’ she suggests, tentatively.
