Karin Brynard comes to Penguin

Marking a significant book deal it is announced today that Penguin Books (South Africa) has won at auction the publishing rights in four novels by rising star Karin Brynard.
 
The award-winning Stellenbosch author and journalist has two novels to her credit, Plaasmoord (Human & Rousseau, 2009) and Onse vaders (Human & Rousseau, 2012), which won her instant critical acclaim and commercial success.

For somebody who generally takes two or three weeks to read a book, my recent three-day book sprint is rather remarkable. The last time I read anything so quickly was probably as a student procrastinating from studying. Never Let Go wasn’t even a book I would normally have picked up at the library or bookstore. I tend to stay away from covers that shout “thriller” and that is exactly what the rather chilling cover communicates.

For the last couple of weeks or so, Rick Yancey’s The 5th Wave has been the subject of discussion amongst many of the book blogging community members I regularly chat to. 

Words such as brilliant, phenomenal and gobsmackingly awesome were being freely tossed around, while others made mention of this novel definitely being a strong contender for the book of 2013.
